Because sometimes your body just needs a break – not a “detox.”

There’s no shortage of “miracle resets” out there. Smoothies that cost more than rent, green powders that promise eternal youth, meal plans that make you hate life by Tuesday.

So, I went the opposite way. I stopped eating for 24 hours. Just to see what would happen.

No cleanse. No supplements. No ridiculous promises. Just intermittent fasting, Aussie-style — straight talk, a bit of science, and no preaching.

Why I Tried It?

Honestly? I felt gross.
Bloated, tired, and constantly trying to work out what to eat to feel better. Nothing hit the spot.

So I hit pause. One full day — water only, a bit of black coffee (two hours after waking up because I’m a fan of the Andrew Huberman method — let your cortisol do its thing first). No sugar, no juice, no “detox tea.” Just letting my body remember hunger.

What the Science Says:

Turns out, I’m not totally winging it:

Harvard researchers found that short fasting cycles promote autophagy — your body’s way of cleaning up old cells and repairing itself.

Australian studies from Monash and Sydney Uni link fasting to better cardiovascular health, improved insulin response, and even anti-aging effects.

And the big win — your liver finally gets a day off. No chips, no booze, no late-night leftovers to filter.

In short, it’s like a factory shutdown for maintenance — except the factory is your body.

The Reality (Not the Instagram Version)

You will think about food. You will check the clock.
But you’ll also realise how much of your eating is just habit.

By the next morning, your first bite tastes incredible. And weirdly — you don’t overdo it. You eat slower. You actually notice what you’re eating again.

It’s not magic. It’s just clarity.

Why It Stuck?

For me, a 24-hour fast isn’t punishment — it’s control.
It’s reminding my body who’s in charge.
It’s a reset when I start feeling like I’ve been living off autopilot meals.

And when your diet’s been hijacked by convenience and chaos, that little bit of control feels like freedom.

One Last Thing…

This isn’t a “must-do.” It’s just one way of finding balance in a world built on snacks and short attention spans.
But if you’ve ever felt stuck in a food fog — maybe try a 24-hour break. See how your body responds.

Question for you: Have you ever tried fasting — or something similar — just to reset your system? What worked, what didn’t, and would you do it again? Drop your thoughts below 👇
